Artists and art-lovers alike can immerse
themselves in the craft at the Seattle Art Fair, August 2nd through the 5th at
CenturyLink Field Event Center. Featuring daily talks, special projects and performances
from over 100 participating galleries, the Seattle Art Fair is a creative
exploration that draws in tens of thousands of viewers from around the
world.
Founded in 2015 by Paul Allen, the Seattle Art
Fair is currently produced by Vulcan Arts + Entertainment and Art Market
Productions- and is considered to be a one-of-a-kind showcase of the best in
modern and contemporary art.
2018 Artistic Director, Nato Thompson
describes his vision- “my hope is that it is dreamy, bizarre, yet tangible.” This
year’s highlights include: Wayne White’s (one of the designers for the
“Pee-Wee’s Playhouse” franchise) 14-foot-tall puppets, giant robots from Survival Research Labs, and
art expected to sell anywhere between hundreds to millions of dollars.
While price tags can be hefty, Thompson wants
to make sure that visitors know that the fair is accessible to all. In a quote to The Stranger, he described the
experience, “Breathe,” he said. “Every art fair
should come with a disclaimer for people who walk in and feel confused, like
they don’t know what’s going on and they think everybody else knows what’s
going on: ‘Nobody understands what’s going on.’ ”
