Hopefully by now, you’ve been able to experience a Seafair event or two (we outlined the July events in our Part 1 post). If not, do not fret- there is plenty more to experience this August!
To refresh your memory, Seafair has become synonymous with Seattle summers. This annual non-profit festival takes place over ten weeks and is made up of over 75 events- affecting more than 2 million people!
Whether you’re staring at the sky, you take to the water… or you are more of a cars fan, here are some of the Seafair’s signature events in August that you don’t want to miss:
Seafair weekend kicks off with Fleet Week- July 29th through August 3rd. This annual tradition, which started at the first Seafair in 1950, is a celebration of the men and women who serve the U.S. This year, Fleet Week will welcome vessels and service men and women from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Canadain Navy. The Parade of Ships takes place July 29th at 12:30pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the ships throughout Fleet Week down on Pier 66. You can get the Fleet Week Fan Guide here, and the entire Fleet Week schedule of events here.
All of the excitement culminates for Seafair Weekend, the unofficial holiday of Seattle summer, August 2nd through the 4th at Genesee Park. The weekend includes the heart-stopping hydroplane races, Blue Angels shows, world-class wakeboarding just off-shore, Monster Energy’s BMX Bike Stunts, ParentMap’s KidsZone inflatables and games, and the inaugural Seafair Classic Car Show. Don’t miss this exciting first time event of Seafair! Hundreds of classic cars and trucks will be on display on the Lake Washington Seafair Cup Racecourse shoreline on “Thunder Alley” Saturday, August 3rd. Stroll by and go back in time while you admire these historical American relics. Interested in registering your car or truck? Get info here.
This heart-pounding showstopper will make you weak in the knees! The Boeing Seafair Air Show showcases the acrobatics of the US Navy’s Blue Angels, US Army’s Golden Knights, US Air Force, and US Coast Guard among many others.
