There is perhaps no other event that signifies summer in Seattle more than Seafair. Since 1950, this annual non-profit festival takes place over ten weeks and is made up of over 75 events- affecting more than 2 million people!
Whether you’re staring at the sky, you take to the water… or you just enjoy a good parade, here are some of the Seafair’s signature events in July that you don’t want to miss:
This award-winning fireworks show, voted one of the nation’s best by USA Today and Business Insider, is a truly explosive celebration of America’s birthday- set to the lively tunes of Seafair’s custom musical score. Head to Gasworks Park for a day of good ol’ fashioned 4th of July fun. The gates open at noon, and guests can enjoy food vendors, live entertainment, pie-eating contests, sack races and more! Quench your thirst and cool off in the beer garden, then stroll the exhibit booths. The entire event is free, but if you want the very best views, you can purchase a ticket to reserve your VIP seating. Proceeds from ticket purchase will benefit Seattle’s Cancer Care Alliance. Fireworks kick off at 10:15pm. Get all the details and reserve your tickets here.
Back for the 47th year, the annual Milk Carton Derby is a celebration of where creativity and science intersect! This year on July 13th beginning at 10:30am, children and adults alike will race their milk carton creations on the waters of Green Lake in Seattle. The Safeway in Kenmore will offer over 300 empty milk cartons on June 29th to use for this creative endeavor. To learn more about how to register, and to find a boat building guide click here.
The Torchlight Run is a Seafair highlight. On Saturday, July 27th beginning at 6pm- runners will take to the streets of Seattle for their choice of a 5K or 8K route. This year the race begins at Seattle Center and runs along the Torchlight Parade route down 4th Avenue. See the route and register here.
Join tens of thousands of spectators for what is most definitely the biggest parade celebration in Seattle every year. This year the parade takes place July 27th beginning at 7:30pm. The parade is free to attend, with reserved seating available for purchase. This year, guests are invited to Seattle Center before the parade for FanFest from noon to 6pm, where they can get a close-up view of the floats, meet the marching bands and check out equestrian units as they prepare for the parade.
