Get Out and Be Proud: Seattle Pride is Here!

Jun 05, 2019

It’s the most colorful event in Seattle! Seattle Pride returns this year in all of its glory with festivities designed to “create unity, honor diversity, and achieve equal human rights throughout our region and the world.”  For one beautiful weekend thousands will gather to celebrate one another- in the things that make us alike, and the things that make us different.

Pride events are free but donations are always welcome. Here are the some of the events you don’t want to miss:

Volunteer Park Pride Festival

On June 8th you can follow the human rainbow to Volunteer Park for the annual Volunteer Park Pride Festival.  From noon to 7pm, people of all ages, all genders, all nationalities, literally every walk of life gather in a celebration of pride!   Enjoy an ice cold beer at the beer garden, dance to the live music, get your grub on at one of the food trucks, and enjoy queer arts and culture at the many booths.  This event is so creative, so fun, and completely free!

This year’s musical line-up features Thunderpussy, JGRGRY, Whitney Monge, Sassyblack, Left at London, Betty Wetter, Marco Collins, and DJ Kirk.

Pride Parade

The 45th annual Seattle Pride Parade marches on Sunday, June 30th beginning at 11am.  Find a spot on the sidewalk between 4th and Union where the parade starts and 2nd Ave. and Denny where it ends.

This year the parade has a theme commemorating two anniversaries in LGBTQIA+ history.  The first is a celebration of the first gay liberation week that started as a movement in Seattle 45 years ago.  The second is a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising- a series of demonstrations in which the LGBTQIA+ community rose up to defend their rights and find their voice. The parade will both look back with respect on the momentous leaps and bounds that have been made in the fight for equality and look forward and continue on the mission to live in a world where no one is marginalized based on sexual orientation, gender identity, religious beliefs, nationality or race.

Regional Pride Events

Seattle Pride is the biggest party in the Pacific Northwest, but there are other celebrations throughout our area.

You can check out a whole line-up of other Pride events here including Trans Pride Parade, Trans Pride Tea Social, 2019 Seattle Dyke March and PrideFest Capitol Hill.
